Identity Management and the related technologies are topics of intense interest to a rapidly growing universe of Government personnel as they contemplate various implementations to enhance security, improve access control and reengineer Government-Citizen interaction to cut costs and improve service. There will be many people in Government who need to quickly and efficiently learn about these technologies. This workgroup intends to produce a reference rich document and “Quick-Reference” brochure for those new to the subject. These documents will provide a ready resource to quickly ramp up on the topic and to locate the best information we can offer. |

This group is looking to the future of identity functions in the U.S. and around the globe, updating previous work done by EC3, and anticipating what should and will be done over the next several years to create a trustworthy, secure identity infrastructure that will meet the functional requirements and privacy needs of government and non-government users and relying parties. This group will include work on policy, process and technology looking well beyond current work in Government to outline the interesting, the successful and the failing approaches for the future. |

Public reliance on "old world" approaches
to identity functions makes identity theft and fraud an extremely
lucrative endeavor. Technology fixes such as better card technology
can be applied to make them harder to defraud. These are the
relatively easy things to do, but they are also short-term and
relatively ineffective solutions. A more comprehensive solution is to
be found in designing and implementing an identity infrastructure to
meet our functional needs. This paper will explore thought provoking
look at current and future functional identity needs and what will be
necessary to meet them. |

popular across all levels of government. The eC3 has been tracking
the evolution of e-commerce and e-government initiatives, and
publishing white papers for several years. eC3 has collected
examples of e-government projects that demonstrate the type of
business case that will be necessary to be successful. These examples
are intended to help organizations in reviewing and planning their
respective e-government initiatives. |
