Thanks to everyone for your participation in today's inaugural conference call.
Here is my summary of the five sub-topics that emerged today; if you feel there should be others, please make a recommendation.
We are asking for participants in the workgroup to identify issues under each of these sub-topics. This exercise will help us to define our universe of concern and then we can begin paring the issues as we develop the drafts of the white paper.
1. Email: Legal Issues
This sub-topic includes issues related to the identification and discussion of critical legal issues in the management of email, including, but not limited to email used in conducting e-commerce, the use of e-signatures within email, and "virtual shredding."
2. Email: Records Management Issues
This sub-topic includes issues related to implementing best practices at the user level for the effective management of email. While technological solutions will be folded into the discussion, the focus of this sub-topic is on user behavior in implementing email management.
3. Creating and Maintaining Proper Systems for Electronic Recordkeeping
This sub-topic includes issues related to the identification of best practices in system development and design to include provisions for electronic record keeping. for the creation and preservation of reliable and authentic electronic records.
4. Generating and Retaining Signed Electronic Records.
This sub-topic includes issues related to the creation and maintenance of electronic records containing electronic signatures.
5. Managing electronic information on an enterprise scale and making it accessible across the enterprise.
