Mission Statement

The state and local marketplace is both robust and dynamic -- embracing the Internet revolution and implementing cutting edge service delivery to their constituents. At the same time, the debate and discussion of online privacy issues, which has been prevalent in the circles of federal government and private sector, has not matured at the state level.

The NEC3 Privacy 2000 workgroup is committed to facilitating the education, promotion and dialogue of this vital issue in state governments. The workgroup will accomplish this through the following mechanisms.

• Educational white papers
• Monitoring state legislative trends
• Advocating the posting of privacy policies on all web sites and portals controlled by state governments
• Working with the White House and other Federal government agencies to coordinate the privacy dialogue among state, federal and private sector entities
