Financial Electronic Data Interchange (FEDI) has been defined as the electronic exchange
of payments, payment information or financially related documents in standard formats
between business partners.
The Financial EDI work group is comprised of professionals from the public and private sector interested in the implementation of FEDI in state government. The work group looks at both why and how to use FEDI as a tool for improving financial management and expediting payments. The group is doing a survey of state use of FEDI in general programs, such as payroll and vendor payments, as well as in the Child Support Enforcement area.
The work group serves in part to educate its members on issues in FEDI. Both the Federal Reserve and the National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA) have provided valuable materials and advice to the group.
